The National Quiz League runs in all Ember Inns from 9pm on 15th April 2018 until the end of the final quiz night on 17th June 2018, entries submitted after this time will not be included. The National Quiz League only runs on each Sunday between the above dates, and starting at 9pm each Sunday at each participating pub.
To enter, guests must visit their local participating Ember Inn to play the quiz on the dates above, and provide their team name on each quiz night. Each team may only enter the tournament at one chosen pub for the term of the tournament.
The winning team in each pub each week will receive 50% of all the entry money at the pub they have attended from that evening’s quiz as a cash prize. Should more than one team have the top score, a tie break will be held to determine the winner. The cash prize will be awarded every week for 10 weeks from 15th April until 17th June 2018. The second prize will be awarded to the team with the second highest score on the evening. The second prize will be six pints of Ember Inns Pale Ale or Coors Light or Carling or regular draught soft drink. The prize can be a combination of the above drinks, but the maximum number of free drinks is six. The third prize is a bottle of Campo Viejo Rioja or Jacob’s Creek Twin Pickings awarded each week to the team with the third highest score. The 2nd and 3rd prizes of free alcohol are not available in Scotland, and an alternative prize will be offered.
The winning team at the end of the 10 weeks with the highest score in each pub totalled (using at maximum their best eight scores) across all ten quiz nights will receive as a prize the total cash amount of the other 50% of entry fees at that pub from each of the 10 weeks from 15th April until 17th June 2018. Each team’s (at maximum) best eight scores across the ten weeks will be used to calculate their total score. The winning team does not have to attend all ten quiz nights to win, provided that it nevertheless has the highest totalled score across the period of the entire tournament. The winning team must however attend the final quiz night in order to collect the prize, which will be paid in cash only. Should the winning team not attend the final night, then the prize will be awarded to the next highest scoring team in attendance, which will also be that pub’s entrant into the last stage of the National Quiz League. Should more than one team in attendance have the top score, a tie break will be held to determine the winner.
Teams can enter the quiz at any time during the 10 weeks.
Teams can have a maximum of 6 players and the entry fee is £1 per player per week. Team players do not have to be the same each week. All team players must be aged 18 or over.
The National Quiz League table on the Ember Inns website [https://www.emberinns.co.uk/nationalquizleague] will show the rolling total of the highest 3 scores in each pub each week for the 10 weeks of the League. At the end of the ten weeks, the three highest scores for each week at each pub will be totalled, and the pub with the highest overall score will be the winning pub. If more than one pub has the same score, the winning pub will be selected at random.
The prize for the winning pub is for Mark Labbett from ITV’s The Chase and his team of 3 TV quizzers to attend the winning pub on 8th July 2018 to play the winning team in that pub. The event will be hosted by Redtooth. To be entered into this final phase of the League, the winning team at each pub must provide a contact name, telephone number, and email address to the organiser in person on the final quiz night at their chosen pub (17th June 2018). The contact will be contacted within 48 hours after 17th June 2018 and must confirm their team’s availability to attend the final event on 8th July 2018, within 48 hours of initial contact. Should the winning team not be able to attend the final event, or not confirm their availability within the set time, the next highest scoring team at the winning pub will be offered the opportunity to attend, on the same basis, and so on.
